A Grade I Listed Building in Halifax, Calderdale

Piece Hall

Uploader's Comments

Reopened 1 Aug 2017 after £19m refurbishment. This rather magnificent Grade I structure is one of the most important early commercial/industrial buildings in Britain. Unfortunately the building is "inflexible" for modern use -- dozens of small weavers' "showrooms" which are barely wider than the walkways outside. In London it would no doubt support bars, restaurants, boutiques and a classy open-air market but I doubt if there is the brass for that in Halifax. So keep fingers crossed for its long-term future.
