SS 80 SW SANDFORD ALLER DOWN

3/212 The Old Forge

GV II

House. C18. Plastered cob on rubble footings; rubble or cob stacks topped with
C19 brick; thatched roof. 2-room cottage facing east with end stack to right
(north) room and rear lateral stack to left room. Irregular 3-window front with
right end broken forward from main range and including door with late C19-early C20
gabled and slate-roofed hood on left side. Late C19 and C20 casements of various
sizes. All, including C20. French windows left of centre, have glazing bars and
flat stucco architraves. Roof is hipped each end. Plain carpentry detail inside.
It appears that left part was originally a 1-room cottage and right part was
originally the forge.
