The house was built in 1870, and was inhabited by Mr Percy Tew of Heath Hall. It was a vicarage from 1877, for the Diocese of Ripon. It was given as a home for the blind, and known as Sunny Lawns Child Memorial Home for the Blind, from 1924 to 1968. It is now called Carlton House and occupied by various businesses.
