L-shaped building of C16 origin with substantial alterations C18 and later.
Timber-framed structure rendered at rear shows steeply-pitched gable-ended tiled
roofs. Main north elevation of 2 storeys and attic, 3 windows (the centre blocked
on 1st floor). High pitched slated roof with end chimneys and 2 square dormers.
C18 brick facade with late C19 or early C20 projecting ground floor and 1st
floor canted bay windows. Inside massive stopped chamfered beams on both floors.
Associated with the Colgate family who emigrated to USA for religious reasons
and now make soap and tooth paste.
