Pre-conquest cross: probably Cll but moved to present site late C20. =
Pink gritstone. Barrel-shaped column has 2 raised bands near the top.
Above the bands the column is dressed into 4 faces with the lower part
of a raised loop visible on each face. The top of the cross is broken
off. The whole stands 1.2m high.
Formerly stood next to the sundial in front of the Shell Cottage,
Adlington Hall (q.v.) another base of a Danish cross of a type whose
distribution is centred around the Macclesfield area.
