GV II

Formerly a barn, early C18, now a Picture Gallery. Red brick in
English garden wall bond with stone slab roof. 2 storeys, 3 truss
bays. Oak double door, each section divided into two in height, hung
on large strap hinges under a segmental arch almost at eaves level.
The door is flanked by two-brick-square piers, also to eaves level,
and the piers are flanked by breather holes in a diamond arrangement.
2-light flush casements with glazing in original pitch hole frames at
first floor level. The south gable has two six-panel doors, one
giving access to the gallery at first floor level.
Interior: A gable door leads into a small hall with wall staircase,
two walls with oak dado panelling and one with full height panelling.
The straight flight of stairs, said to come from Shavington Park,
Shropshire, has turned balusters and massive square newels with
moulded caps. At first floor level there is two-panel-high oak dado
panelling with reeded muntins which came from Eaton Hall, near
Chester. The roof has two original oak king post trusses, oak purlins
and ridgetree.
