6/35 Barn, outbuilding and former
stables immediately north west
of Poplars
GV II

Group of outbuildings consisting of stables, a barn and a storage building.
Probably C19 or earlier. Framed construction, clad in weatherboarding except
for the north elevation of the stables, which is rendered; peg-tile roofs.

Plan: 2 ranges of a courtyard of buildings sited in front of and slightly
west of the house. Access to the west half of the house is through the
courtyard and a drangway in the stable range, which forms the north west
boundary of the garden. The stable range is roofed on a west east axis. The
barn and outbuilding are at right angles, adjoining at the north east corner.

Exterior: The stable range is weatherboarded on the south side, rendered on
the north. The roof is carried across a drangway to the west of the range. 4
stable doors into the courtyard on the north side. The barn roof is half-
hipped at the south end, gabled at the right end. 3 bays with paired doors in
the centre in the east side and opposed doors in the west. The east side also
has a loft door to the right and a ground floor window to the right.
Adjoining the barn, at the right (north) end a lower-roofed outbuilding has
paired doors to the left and a smaller doorway alongside to the right.

Interior: Not inspected.

Included for group value with Poplars.
