TL 85 NE HAWSTEAD THE POUND

Cottage, late C17 or early C18. 2 windows; 2-cell plan, 1-storey with loft at
one end. Timber-framed and rendered. Cedar-shingled roof with axial chimney
of red brick, rebuilt C20. C19 and C20 casements and glazed panelled entrance
door, with flat canopy on brackets. Lobby-entrance against the internal
chimney which only heats the hall. An unusual survival in Suffolk of a
cottage from a low social level which is still open to the rafters apart from a
loft reached by ladder at one end. Included for group value.
