A very fine example of an early C18 town house with two early
C19 'bays' added to west, the second 'bay' with false windows.
The extension incorporates the original side entry. Local brown
brick; slate roof, hipped to left hand with three stacks. Three
storeys with service basement. Parapet with stone copings.
Brick cornice. Four, second floor, twelve-paned hung sash
windows in flush wooden frames with segmental arches. Four
similar, but larger, first floor and three ground floor
windows. Entrance, to west of centre, approacheed by four steps
with low balustraded wall. Iron railings and gate to
forecourt. Rusticated limestone doorcase with key block in
square headed, triangular pedimented head. Six-panelled door.
Original interior details complete at each floor level, of
particular interest the staircase hall with geometric stone
floor with black marble insets, enriched cornice at both floor
levels, matching pair of broken pedimented doorcases to ground
floor rooms; fine open-string staircase with Vitruvian scroll
band, turned balusters and moulded, shaped hand rail. Drawing
room complete with raised and fielded panelling and cornice and
chimney piece. Original panelled doors and door and window
cases. Early C19 rooms with good interior detail. House once
owned by the Peckover family.
