II
Cemetery mortuary chapel built c.1835. By William Adams of
Wisbech. Doric design. Yellow gault brick with stone and Roman
cement dressings. Shallow pitched slate roof. One storey.
Pilasters at quoins and 'bays', with bases on deep moulded
plinth. Pediments with stone copings. 'General Cemetery'
painted on frieze above double entrance facing east. West
facade has large central window, now boarded, with gauged brick
arches, imposts and keyblocks, and two small flanking windows.
Covering nearly 2 1/2 acres the cemetery is now in a derelict
condition. The tombstones have been carefully plotted and
recorded by Mr. E. Golding. None are of outstanding quality,
though their intrinsic value (ie record of C19 history) to
Wisbech should be considered.
