Walls and railings to Samuel Lewis

Boundary walls to the Samuel Lewis Trust estate, in Liverpool
Road and Laycock Street. 1909-1910. By Joseph and Smithem for
the Samuel Lewis Trust. Brown glazed brick, artificial stone
and cast-iron. Circa 100 metres in Liverpool Road and c.70
metres in Laycock Street. Square piers with corniced ogee
heads, the wall itself with a concave profile in elevation,
the cavity filled with plain cast-iron railings. In Liverpool
Road, there are five sets of gates giving onto the courtyards
between the blocks, the octagonal gate piers having stone
banding and ogee heads, the first third and fifth from the
south rebuilt with a new low curved wall, to accommodate cars.
