stacks to gable ends and central party wall. Double-depth
plan.
2 storeys. Designed as 2 symmetrical units with pilasters to
sides and centre; each is 3-window range. Stone lintels over
all openings. The offices to the left were 2 dwellings with
central paired doors, each with 2 vertical panels, having
overlights with reeded lower rails; unit to the right was one
dwelling, now has C20 shop front inserted to the right and
includes the original central door with enlarged overlight.
All other windows are 8/8-pane sashes.
INTERIOR not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: iron spearheaded railings on low wall to
front. The piers of substantial tall cast-iron double gates
are attached to the left (south-west) corner; the piers are
cast-iron trellisses, approx 4m high and have "I SMITH BRASS
AND IRON FOUNDERS 1849" cast into the left-hand pier. They are
set facing each other against the walls of a carriageway; the
bases have large florettes set in open squares, with a
semicircular motif to the main shaft, and a cornice, crowned
by a C19 palmette-style finial. An overthrow of twisted square
section has an empty square lamp-frame to the centre, and
scrolls to the centre and sides.
