Row of 3 small town houses. c.1830, altered. Red brick in 4+1 English garden wall bond, with sandstone dressings and slate roof. Double-depth plan, each house single-fronted, with back extensions (perhaps added), and through-lobbies to left of Nos.22 and 24. Two storeys over cellars, each house 2 bays, with plain frieze and moulded gutter cornice; vertical joint between Nos.22 and 24. The doorway of each is to the left, up 2 steps, No.20 with late C19 panelled pilasters, Nos.22 and 24 with doorcases of engaged Tuscan columns with square abaci, plain frieze and moulded cornice, with rectangular overlight at No.22 and elliptical fanlight at No.24; the lobby doorway of No.22 has a plain lintel, that of No.24 a moulded lintel. Each has one window at ground floor and 2 above, No.22 sashed without glazing bars and the others altered, all raised sills and wedge lintels. Rear: No.24 has unusual parallel back extension; others not inspected. INTERIOR of No.24 has entrance hall with elaborate moulded plaster cornices including modillions; fireplace in front parlour with fluted Ionic columns (similar fireplace removed from back room); 2-room cellar with fireplace in front room, vaulted back room. Item is part of formerly complete set of late Georgian lower-middle class houses in this street (laid out in Great Avenham Field, advertised for sale as building plots in 1825).
