The Clock Tower

Clock tower. 1905 by Cressey and Keighley. Red brick with
sandstone banding and dressings. Of square plan above a
cruciform base with corner buttresses. The lowest stage has
bench seats under lead canopies. Above, under gablets, are
3-light mullioned windows. Below the clock stage there is a
lozenge window on each side. The clock stage is of sandstone
and carried on conrer corbels. The circular clock face
openings have keystones. Above is a tent roof with metal
finial. On the seaward side there are inscriptions: 'Presented
by John Robert Birkett Esq JP Mayor 1903 to 1906', and
'Cressey and Keighley, Architects'.
