Non-conformist chapel, now part of the County Museum. 1848. By
Philip Sambell. Granite ashlar front, Delabole slate roof with
pediments at the front. Rectangular aisleless plan, formerly
with gallery on 3 sides now divided into 2 floors, former
schoolroom at rear added in 1867. 2 storeys. Pedimented
1:1:1-bay street front. Plinth, string course and giant
pilasters dividing the bays; round-arched openings, recessed
to first floor, with moulded architraves to ground floor; tall
central window over doorway rising into open pediment,
original hornless sashes with glazing bars and spoked-fanlight
heads, margin panes to central window. Ground floor has 3
doorways: taller central doorway and flanking doorways
approached by granite steps, all with pairs of doors with
glazed upper panels and spoked fanlights. Side walls have
dressed granite buttresses dividing rubble bays with tall
original sashes with glazing bars and spoked-fanlight heads.
INTERIOR: altered since conversion but retains round central
ceiling rose with carved acanthus and other detail and re-used
cast-iron balusters to balcony.
