Vicarage. C17, and probably earlier; remodelled mid C18 and
early C19. Rubble walls with brick arches; hipped asbestos
slate roof (originally with gable end on left rear) brick
lateral stacks.
Large U-shaped plan with rear wings truncated C20. 2 storeys
over cellars; nearly symmetrical 3:1:3-bay, 7-window front.
Early C19, 12-pane hornless sashes except for 2 horned copies
to 1st-floor left; segmental arches to ground floor of
left-hand bays, otherwise flat arches or lintelled openings;
central doorway with glazed door to projecting stuccoed
central bay. Left-hand bays are rendered above 1st-floor
meeting rail level, to wall heightened late C19 or early C20.
Rear has tall early C19 stair sash. Right-hand return has
early C19 sashes with glazing bars including 2-storey canted
bay with Venetian window over tripartite sash.
INTERIOR has many mid C18 features of interest including
moulded and panelled stair hall ceiling with central poppy
with oak-leaf spray; heavy moulded plaster ceilings to
right-hand room and chambers above; canopied ceiling with
coved cornice to left-hand chamber over reception room with
later C18 ceiling cornice; same room with chimneypiece of
similar date with Adam influence; similar chimneypiece to
chamber of right-hand wing; various other chimneypieces of
different dates, some with iron grates including C18 grate
with inverted arch over arch to right-hand chamber; roof
structures with pegged lapped collars: older thinner trusses
on left at lower level; heavy hardwood beams to cellar; good
quality open-well staircase with open string, ramped handrail
and turned balusters; 2-panel doors, some with fielded panels
and one 3-panel door.
Early C19 features include: panelled window shutters with
inner beads; panelled doors; attic stair (with some older
winders) with stick balusters; some cast-iron grates and brick
wine shelves in cellar.
