Potter's Lock
GV II
Lock chamber and leat. 1779 by John Varley, engineer, with
later repairs. Gritstone and red brick, partly rebuilt in
engineering brick and concrete. Timber and iron gates. The
chamber has been little rebuilt, brick and gritstone side walls
with gritstone copings. Iron steps on either side. Pair of
wooden gates at either end have iron reinforced balance beams
and tubular iron handrails across the top. Paddle mechanism
operated by a rack and pinion. To the side of each gate is a
concrete semi-circular with foot grips. The leat runs to the
south of the lock.
