Terrace of 11 town houses. 1820s. Brick with buff headers and
stucco dressings; slate roof with brick end and 5 cross-axial
stacks. Double-depth plan. Georgian style. 2 storeys;
17-window range; most houses of single-window width, but Nos
21, 23, 26 and 28 have windows over entries and No.30 is
symmetrical 3-window house. Top cogged brick cornice.
Entrances have architraves, friezes and cornices, most with
6-flush-panel doors; elliptical-headed entries with plank
doors. Windows have sills, and rusticated wedge lintels with
keys over 12-pane sashes. Nos 20 and 21 have central entry
with casement window over, entrances to right of windows, that
to No.20 with overlight. Nos 23-25 form symmetrical
composition with central entry with blind window above, and
paired entrances, with flanking windows, to each side; No.24
has C20 door and casements, No.25 has C20 door and 4-pane
sashes. Nos 26-29 form 2 symmetrical compositions with central
entry with blind window above and flanking entrances, flanked
by windows; No.26 has 4-flush-panel door and No.28 has
half-glazed panelled door. No.30 has entrance with stained
glass overlight and blind window above; right return has
16-pane sash. College Lane is part of the development of the
land on which the medieval priests' college stood until 1799,
in an area of early C19 housing of good quality.
