House, now 2 shops. C17, possibly earlier, altered C20.
Timber-framed, rendered, with plain-tile roof and brick end
stacks. Probably 2-unit plan originally. 2-storeys and attic;
3-window range. Main front faces High Street to S and has C20
door to right of centre flanked by hanging bay window to left
and canted bay window to right, both shop windows, all under
continuous straight hood. 3-light casement windows to 1st
floor left and right of centre and small 1-light casement to
1st floor far left. Central hipped roof dormer window.
INTERIOR: much mutilated two and a half bay roof survives,
originally with 2 tiers of wind-braced purlins; collars and
through purlins.
The building is constructed on a slope. Lower shop occupies
ground floor and is entered from High Street. Upper shop
occupies first and attic floors and is entered from Market
Hill.
