Includes: No. 9 SPRINGFIELD AVENUE. A pair of semi-detached villas, now divided into flats. 1903. Designed by A A Gibson of Harrogate for R S Palliser. Red brick and render with ashlar dressings and plain tile roofs. 5 brick stacks. 2 storey plus attic and deep basement. Symmetrical facades. Street front to 2 Spring Grove has central 2 storey, canted bay with ashlar quoins, ashlar coped parapet and large ball finials. Recessed segment headed doorway with stained glass, 9-panel door and overlight, above a segment, dentilated wooden hood supported on brackets. Eitherside single leaded lights. Above a segment headed 2-lights mullion window with leaded lights, eitherside single similar flat headed windows. To the left a shallow square bay with a similar 5-light window, above two, 2-light casement windows. To the right 3 sets of French windows under a wooden verandah with square chamfered pillars and plain tile roof, above two 2-light casement windows. Above again in the gable two 3-light casement windows under a continuous plain tile hood. Rear facade has projecting canted bay topped with glazed conservatory. Identical symmetrical facade to 9 Springfield Avenue, with painted ashlar dressings. Interior reputed to contain find quality contemporary oak fittings including fireplaces with ornate inglenook fire surrounds, panelled doors and cupboard doors with stained glass, panelling, staircase and stained glass windows.
