Theatre, 1911-1912, by Frank Matcham. Opened 16th December 1912, altered 1964. Limestone ashlar, roof not visible. 3 storeys; 6-window range. Parapeted in 2 sections: the 1912 right-hand entrance section has a shallow lobby with Ionic columns to the corners; above are distyle -in-antis attached Ionic columns to an entablature, with metal casements, and 3 flanking second-floor wreaths separated by raised panels. Mid C20 three-window right-hand section has a shop front and 2-storey recesses containing metal casements.

INTERIOR: much red and gilded decoration, to a lobby and stair up to a domed landing with stained-glass windows front and back; the theatre has a proscenium arch with moulded surround with leaves, and panelled surround with a small ground-level balcony and semicircular arch; raking stalls with boxes at the rear divided by female terms with wings; boxes to sides have banded brown marble lower tier, bowed above with 4 fluted Ionic columns to the upper tier with triglyphs, and bowed balconies between; Dress Circle with swagged rail, gallery with triglyphs; domed ceiling. A largely unaltered example of the period.
