The Cottage

II

Cottage. Early C18, altered mid C19. Rendered with limestone
dressings, lateral stacks, roof not visible. Double-depth
plan. 2 storeys and basement; 3-window range. A symmetrical
front with a full height porch, and doorway to a half-glazed
inner door. 8/8-pane sashes, 6/6-panes over the door. Rear
elevation has pilasters to a moulded parapet coping, a mid C19
moulded ashlar doorway and a first-floor niche. INTERIOR: a
through hall to the back door, right-hand front winder dogleg
stair with stick balusters and column newels; 6-panel doors. A
rare survival in Clifton of a house predating the development
of the suburb.
