House, now two flats. c1860. Rock-faced sandstone with ashlar
quoins and dressings, on roll-moulded plinth. Cross-gabled
roof of contrasting bands of orange-red and blue-black
fishscale tiles; valanced eaves, and pierced and scalloped
bargeboards to crossgables. Cruciform ridge stacks to rear
wings.
1 storey and attic; 2-bay front: with 2 storey and attic
cross-gabled bay to right. Shallow projecting gabled porch in
centre bay, with roll-moulded finial; pointed double-chamfered
doorway beneath hoodmould on foliate corbel stops, and pointed
door with elaborate wrought iron hinges. To left, 2
single-light windows; to right, 5-light square bay window
beneath boldly carved foliate frieze and moulded cornice.
Gabled attic window to left is half-dormer with single-light
window recessed beneath pointed arch of voussoirs, and
roll-moulded sillband with foliate stops. In cross-gabled bay
to right, first-floor window is of 2 lights beneath pointed
relieving arch, with sunk trefoil moulding. In gable apex,
attic window is pointed with roll-moulded sillband and foliate
stops.
Left return: 1 storey and attic; 2-bay front: with 2-storey
cross-gabled bay to right. Single-light window to ground floor
left bay; 2-light window in centre; to right, 4-light canted
bay with frieze and cornice as on main front bay window. Attic
window to left is gabled half-dormer of 2 lights. Right bay
has 2-light first floor window beneath pointed relieving arch,
with sunk trefoil moulding. All windows, except where
specified otherwise, are trefoil-headed. All openings and
window mullions are hollow-chamfered.
