Birches Barn House

II

Farmhouse, now house. Mid C18 with later addition. Brick with
plaster dressings; tile roof and brick stacks. 2 storeys with
attic; 3-window range; right end later. Windows have
rusticated wedge lintels with keys; right end windows have
brick cambered arch, and brick flat arch to 1st floor; central
gabled dormer; windows have small-paned casements with iron
opening casements. Entrance to left of centre has gabled
canopy and glazed door. End stacks and cross-axial stack. Rear
similar; outshut under catslide roof to right of C20 glazed
conservatory. INTERIOR: chamfered spine beams; large fireplace
with bressummer and recesses. A rare survival of a farmhouse
in an area of suburban development.
