TEWKESBURY

SO8932 ABBEY CHURCHYARD, Abbey Precincts

metres north of north porch adjacent
to path

GV II

Chest tomb, early C18. Limestone. Flat ledger to cavetto edges
set to lyre ends and decorative panel sides, on moulded base
and small platform. The E lyre end has an oval panel, long
sides have recessed central panel flanked by deep carved
drapes. Inscription includes ANDREW SON OF CHARLES HOSKINS
GENT AND MARY HIS WIFE ...... died 1715 (?) aged 25. An
example of a monument type much used in Cotswold churchyards.
