Description

ASHBURTON

SX7569 WEST STREET
849-1/10/180 (North side)
10/05/73 No.4

GV II

House with shop. Early or mid C19; probably a remodelling of a
house of C17 or earlier. Rendered front (probably
timber-framed), lined to imitate masonry. Slated roof. 3
storeys. 2 windows wide. Mid C19 shop front to left of ground
storey: display window divided by enriched iron columns,
doorway with flanking pilasters, entablature overall. Other
windows, including 1 to right of ground storey, have 2-paned
sashes.
Interior: not inspected, but in rear wall of shop, rising from
the floor, is a very large, irregular pointed stone arch; it
probably relates to the River Ashburn, which appears to run
under the house.
