(west side)

8/131 The Round House

II
House. Late C18, possibly enclosing earlier work in rear wing.
Flint laced brick. Tiled roof. Two storeys and cellar, and
attic. Originally two bays, now two with central stair hall and
entrance on south under rustic porch. Plat band. Panelled room,
paned timber casement windows. Remodelled early C19 when two
storey yellow brick rounded bays added to each gable end, and whole
building reroofed with cogged eaves. Two hipped dormers, rear wing
possibly north service end of earlier 2-bay building.
Interior: C19 stair with open-well inserted at remodelling. Rear
wing has open gable fireplace, now blocked, with double ovolo-
moulded lintel, and moulded shelf and C17 panelling over, probably
ex-situ. Flat-roofed kitchen extension on north side of wing,
c1960.
