3 houses and outbuildings. Formerly one house with stable range;
mid C18 with mid C19 alterations. Chesterfield House: 2 storeys
and attics, 3 storeys and attics, 3 windows. Rendered brick with
corner pilasters, moulded cornice and parapets. Parapet gable to
Sackville Street. Plaintiled roof; flat lead roofed dormers with
sash windows; C18 rear chimneys of red brick. Sash windows at
1st floor, the sashes replaced mid C19 with large panes and a 4th
window blocked. A pair of mid C19 splayed bays at ground floor
with sash windows and flat roof. Late C18 entrance doorway with
modillion cornice and fluted pilasters, oblong fanlight with
decorative glazing bars; C19 4-panelled door. At 2nd floor a
section of mid C18 staircase balustrading; that at 1st floor
replaced early C19. The floor structure over the cellar is built
from late C16 oak members, perhaps from an earlier house on the
site. The stable range, early C19, encloses a courtyard to the
rear of Chesterfield House; in C20 partly converted to 2
dwellings which are of 2 storeys; painted brick, partly with
concrete tiled roof, partly slated; C20 small-pane sash windows
and entrance doors. The remaining stable range 2 storeys; red
brick, partly slated and partly asbestos sheeted. Stable
doorways within the courtyard retain, in some cases, boarded C19
doors with fanlights under a segmental arched heads. Various C19
casements.
