Church. C12 south door and chancel arch otherwise mostly C14 and C15.
Ashlar magnesian limestone, stone slate and Welsh slate roofs. West tower
with north vestry, 3-bay nave, 2-bay chancel. Tower: offset and moulded
bands, diagonal west buttresses (that to north-west with carved cross).
Plain 2-light west window with slit to stair turret on left. Cruciform
window and string course beneath C15 upper stage with chamfered 2-light
windows; string course beneath crenellated parapet with crocketed corner
pinnacles. Nave: C12 doorway to bay 1 has 2 orders of colonettes, scalloped
capitals (weathered), zig-zag to inner order and restored beakhead ornament
to outer order with hoodmould. Window on right of door has 2 ogee-headed
lights in square-faced surround, to east a large buttress and window of
2 ogee lights in chamfered, moulded surround, fragment of medieval cross in
wall beyond. Round-arched north door now a 2-light Y-tracery window, on its
left a window of 2 round-headed lights in square-faced surround. Gable
copings with east cross. Chancel: C14 quadrant-moulded priest's door on left
of a 2-light double-chamfered window with shouldered heads. C15 east window
of 3 lights in a hollow-chamfered surround with hoodmould; double-chamfered
north window of 2 round-headed lights.
Interior: double-chamfered tower arch on moulded impost band (partly cut
back). Round inner arches to north and south doors. Chancel arch: shafted
responds and scalloped capitals to a 2-order round arch with roll moulds to
the soffit and zig-zag and lozenges to the hood. C20 furnishings to nave by
Robert Thompson of Kilburn. C20 stained glass. C20 nave roof with Duchy of
Lancaster arms, by G. G. Pace of York. Font beneath tower apparently
contrived in a medieval cross base la C15 font stands in the churchyard
(q.v) ]
