statues to south and
east of Brodsworth Hall

GV II

Garden statues. 1866-1867 for Charles Thellusson. Marble. 10 separate female
statues. Each has square pedestal with moulded plinth, plain die and cornice,
the figures set at intervals around the formal gardens to Brodsworth Hall.
Commissioned in Italy by Chevalier Casentini who provided many marble sculptures for
the interior of Brodsworth Hall. Account books cited by Girouard (p876) note a
consignment in 1867 of ".... marble steps and figures and Fountain vase in Pleasure
grounds".
