03/08/2013, Station Rd, Leiston, Suffolk IP16 4HD England.

A former Coaching Inn from the late 18th Century, a Listed Building.

The rich history of the hotel includes tales of smugglers of the local 'Sizewell Gap gang' outwitting the King’s men with the help of the first landlady, a certain Mrs Gildersleeves.
Much of the original building remains intact, including the barn that housed the wagons to transport contraband, such as Geneva gin, to nearby towns, and as far away as Stowmarket & Newmarket.

Details are from Historic England:-
Heightened and re-fenestrated in early C19. Brick with slate roof. 3-storeys. 4-window range, flush sashes with glazing bars; segmental arches. Asymmetrical pedimented doorway flanked by pilasters. 6-panel fielded door, rectangular fanlight with coloured leaded glass. Wood bracketed cornice. Return frontage to Main Street has 2 window range.
