Inn and smithy, now restaurant. Early C18 smithy and late C18 inn:
buildings converted to present use in 1967. Squared limestone with pantile
and slate roofs and brick stacks. 2-storey, 3-window front to former inn;
left lower 2-storey, 2-window former smithy; single-storey outbuilding at
far left. Former inn: door of 6 recessed panels beneath timber lintel. To
left of door, 2 inserted small-pane bow windows. To right of door and on
first floor 3-light, large-pane horizontal-sliding sashes with timber
lintels and no sills. Coped gables and shaped kneelers. End and right-of-
centre stacks. Former smithy: stable doors beneath timber lintels at each
end. Small-pane bow window to right of left-hand door; other windows
3-light, large-pane horizontal-sliding sashes with timber lintels. Coped
gable and shaped kneeler at left end. Centre stack. Outbuilding: C20 board
door flanked by 2-light, small-pane horizontal-sliding sashes, all with
timber lintels. Interior: in the former inn chamfered spine beams and
chamfered square-section joists are exposed in the area to left of door.
Former Smithy has quarter-round moulded joists throughout. Remains of forge
have been retained in room to left. On the first floor a single pair of
raised crucks are visible to the collar.
