4/218 Ruins of dovecote 70 metres to
north of Lower Halwyn
II
Ruins of a dovecote. Probably C16. Slate stone rubble with a battered base. The
dovecote was probably originally of circular plan similar in construction to the
dovecotes at St Breoke (scheduled as an ancient monument) and at the Vicarage,
Tintagel (qv). About half of the structure remains comprising a semi-circular wall
with a battered base on the north west side.
The ruins have walls of about 8 metres in height, the roof completely gone. The
pigeon holes remain intact on the inner face.
Inside the dovecote a corrugated iron shed has been built.
Originally probably part of the Manor of Halwyn, the ruins of which survive in part
directly to the north-west.
