3/77 Garden Cottage

Former gardener's house in kitchen garden to north of Dodington Park (q.v.).
Early - mid C19. Red brick with stone dressings and long and short quoins, plain
tiled roof with raised coped verges and kneelers, stepped stonework under verges,
stacks rising from eaves in chequered brick and stone. 2 storeys and 2 windows
to south front, canted bay to left with 3 C20 windows and small window to right in
splayed stone reveal; 2 small gables each with similar small single pane window,
small C20 window to ground floor right, parapet wall raised above eaves to right,
stone plinth. Left return has door to right with pointed segmental chamfered
head, door with raised fillets and decorative strap hinges, 2-light casement above
in gable end with chamfered stone surround. Right return (in poor condition
after demolition of former outhouse) has similar door to left and similar 2-light
casement to right, similar casement in gable end, to right retaining original
leaded diamond lights and margin leading. Rear has weathered external stack to
right, stack rising from eaves to left, central single-light casement at ground
and first floors in splayed stone surround, retaining similar leaded lights at
first floor. In poor condition at time of survey, (September 1984).
