GV II

House. C17, probably an earlier house remodelled. Single storey
flat roofed, brick rear extension c.1965 in modern style by G
Mathers. One and a half storeys, timberframed and plastered,
facing E. Old red tile roof half-hipped to N but gabled to S.
Tile hung gable on S. Small red brick gabled modern porch. 2
gabled dormers on front wall plate. Central chimney one third
from S end. Lobby entry plan with N service room formerly
axially divided. Brick oven on W of stack opening from middle
room. Floors N of chimney have irregular joists running
longitudinally (inserted over service room) but S room has stop
chamfered axial beam, with slighter square joists, N end propped
off fireplace lintel and presumably inserted with it in Cl7. The
house is said to have flint walls supporting the sill plates, the
external plastering applied on top of weatherboarding c.1965, and
the roof thatched up to 1927. Small paned modern bow windows to
S and W. Old ovolo-moulded battened entrance door re-used in
porch. Modern rear brick extension with large sliding windows
facing S and deep overhang to flat roof.
