Memorial outside Sunday School

GV II

Memorial. Dated 1846. Stone. Battered pedestal mounted on
steps and surmounted by cornice with acroteria. Plain block
above this with steep chamfered top, itself surmounted by a
draped urn. Inscription on pedestal records 'As a tribute of
veneration and esteem for the public and private benevolence
of John Whitaker the founder, this monument is erected by the
voluntary contributions of a grateful posterity the 6th day of
May 1846 being the 50th anniversary of the establishment of
this Sunday School'. On the upper block a low relief bust.
