NY 34 SE CASTLE SOWERBY

House. Dated and inscribed over doorway I.R. M.R. 1678, with C19 alterations.
Painted rendered walls, under graduated greenslate roof with cement rendered
ridge and gable chimney stacks. Extension of painted rubble walls under
graduated greenslate roof. 2 storeys, 5 bays with higher right-angled
single-bay extension. Left C20 porch covers original entrance with inscribed
lintel. Right ground-floor windows are Yorkshire sashes in chamfered painted
surrounds under hoodmoulds; and small chamfered-surround firewindow. Other
windows above and left are casements in C19 painted stone surrounds. Extension
has projecting gable; sash windows with glazing bars in painted stone surrounds.
