SP4914 (West side)
10/89 No.49

GV II

House. Early C19. Coursed limestone rubble; gabled artificial stone slate roof
with stone slates to rear; brick end stacks. L-plan with rear right wing. 2
storeys; symmetrical 3-window range. Timber lintel over C19 six-panelled (2
glazed) door with C19 columnated stone porch. Late C19 square bay windows on
ground floor. Timber lintels over first-floor 6-pane sashes. 3-storey rear wing
with 8-pane sashes. Mid C19 brick and early C20 stone ranges to rear. Interior:
early C19 panelled doors and dados. Neo-classical fireplaces in rooms to right
and left. Mid C19 staircase. For a short time before 1846 the house functioned
as a ladies' school. Marks on the left gable wall suggest that trite early C19
house was converted from and extensively rebuilt a former barn.
