Pair of attached houses. 1860. By EW Godwin. Pennant and Lias rubble with limestone dressings, stone gable and ridge stacks and a double Roman hipped roof. Double-depth plan. Free Gothic style. 2 storeys basement and attic; 4-window range. An almost symmetrical pair with entrances in the ends. The porches have square 3/4 columns with square foliate capitals to a heavy stilted 2-centre arch and hipped roof; that to No.10 is set in the return and has a C20 door, and to No.11 in a projecting lobby, has a large framed door. Outer windows are narrow plate-glass sashes; No.10 has inside this a canted full-height bay with brick mullions and foliate capitals and shallow 2-centre brick arches; No.11 has 3 narrow windows with stone mullions and capitals, and a C20 first-floor window above. 2 large C20 triangular tile-hung dormers, and tall ribbed brick chimneys. INTERIOR not inspected. In the lack of symmetry, of different types and colours of materials, and the big stacks, this is an early example of Domestic Revival architecture.
