Farmhouse, now public house. Dated 1712 at 1st floor of rear;
with large addition in later C19, now much altered. Coursed
squared sandstone, the older portion with quoins, composition
tile roofs. Irregular plan formed by double-depth
double-fronted addition to north side of earlier U-plan house.
The earlier portion, facing south, is 2 low storeys, 1:1:1
windows, with a chamfered plinth, C19 window openings with C20
glazing, a plain doorway in the re-entrant of the right-hand
wing, and a datestone at 1st floor of the main range with
raised lettering: H/ VA/ 1712. The C19 addition, facing north,
is in Gothic style, 2 storeys and 3 windows, symmetrical, with
a set-back centre between steeply gabled wings, and has a
gabled porch in the centre with a 2-centred arched doorway and
gable coping with kneelers, canted bay windows to the wings
and cross-windows above, all these windows with margin panes;
and side-wall chimneys. INTERIOR: completely remodelled,
partition walls removed at ground floor, leaving only 2
chamfered beams in centre of older portion. The associated
detached former farm buildings are not included.
