GV II

Almshouse. 1800-05. By Joseph Potter Snr of Lichfield. For
Andrew Newton. Brick with ashlar dressings and front facing;
graduated slate roof with ashlar stacks. Double-depth plan.
Classical style.
3 storeys; 2-window range facing Bird Street. Plain plinth,
platt band over ground floor and top frieze and cornice; end
pilaster strips. Windows have sills and 12-pane sashes, those
to 1st floor in round-headed recesses. Left return has
recessed left half with brick arcade to ground floor with
brick lozenge parapet, 2nd floor sill band and cornice; plain
entrance; windows to left half have rubbed brick flat arches
etc, those to left end of right half have small-paned
casements. Right return has 2nd floor blind windows. Built to
provide accommodation for the widows and single daughters of
clergymen.
