Pair of attached houses, now offices. c1850. Limestone ashlar,
party wall and lateral stacks and a concrete tile hipped roof.
Double-depth plan. Italianate style.
Each of 3 storeys and basement; 3-window range. A wide,
symmetrical front has the middle 2-window section stepped
forward, rusticated quoins strips and party-wall band, plat
band, and bracketed eaves. Left-hand house has an
elliptical-headed doorway to the left of the middle section,
with a recessed 3-panel door; the right-hand doorway in the
return has a semicircular-arched doorway, rusticated jambs and
a panelled door. Inner shallow canted bays have segmental
heads with thin attached columns at the reveals, cornice and
panelled balustrade; tripartite semicircular-arched windows
above with console cornices; remaining windows have segmental
heads with shouldered and eared architraves, with first-floor
cornices, and sill blocks. Plate-glass sashes, some with
margin bars. INTERIOR not inspected. Nos 5-19 (qv) are now one
linked office.
