Terraced houses. 1841. Developed by William Watkins and
probably designed by J.W.Griffith. Yellow brick set in Flemish
bond, stucco, roof obscured by parapet. Four storeys over
basement, two windows each, except no 20 which has three
windows, a single-storey entrance bay set back to the side,
and a two-storey wing behind. Otherwise, the houses form a
symmetrical group with nos 21-22 projecting. Basement and
ground floor stuccoed, the ground floor decorated with
chamfered rustication; segmental-arched entrance with pilaster
jambs, cornice and fanlights; panelled doors of original
design to nos 20-22. Ground-floor windows round-arched, first-
and second-floor windows flat-arched with gauged brick heads;
continuous bracketed balcony with cast-iron railings to first
floor; moulded stucco cornice and blocking course above second
floor forming sill band to third-floor round-arched windows.
Sashes of possibly original design to nos 20 (ground floor)
and 23 (second floor). Parapet. Cast-iron railings to area.
