9/147 The Grange

GV II

Rectory, 1754, altered C19. Squared rubble with hipped stone slate roof. Rusti-
cated quoins and modillion cornice. Two storeys and five bays on the main,
south-east front. Symmetrical around glazed double door in stone frame of
pilasters, deep flat console and pediment carried over a round arch with
keystone. One large canted C19 bay window to each side, sashed with glazing
bars. Central window above has an architrave, the others plain stone surrounds,
but all are sashed with glazing bars. The north east front has a Diocletian
window, and the south west front a doorway inscribed "SIBI ET SUCCESSORIBUS
H. RICHARDSON A.M. RECTOR AEDES HASCE EXTRUXIT A.C. MDCCLIV" (H. Richardson
M.A., Rector, built this house for himself and his successors in the year
1754 of the Christian era). Interior not inspected.
