House and cottage, now 1. Mid C19, incorporating early fragments. Rubble,
stone slate roof. 2 storeys, 3:3 first-floor windows. Quoins. Between
bays 5 and 6, gabled porch to house, with 4-panel door and, above it, a
small, weathered stiff-leaf capital, perhaps from a colonnette. Part-glazed
doors in bays 3 and 4. Casement window in ground-floor to left of cottage,
other windows 4-pane sashes. Stacks at ends of house. Rear elevation of
house: blocked C14 single-light trefoil-headed window with hood-mould and

Jervaulx Abbey which superseded the monks' short-lived establishment at Fors
Abbey, the site of which is near this house. VCH i, p 201.

Source title links go to a search for the specified title at Amazon. Availability of the title is dependent on current publication status. You may also want to check AbeBooks, particularly for older titles.
