GV II

Group of 2 wet and 2 dry barge docks on north-east side of
Trent and Mersey Canal. 1772, and early to mid C19. Stone,
with brick, iron and timber sheds; slate and tile roofs.
South-eastern dock, the earliest dry dock, has stone sides;
brick covering shed has open sides of 7 brick piers with
stepped outer buttressed sides; end has boat entrance with
cambered timber lintel to canal; tile roof. Dry dock to
north-west has brick sides, partly replaced with concrete. Wet
dock to north-west has brick sides and C20 timber shed.
North-western wet dock has brick covering shed with open sides
with cast-iron columns; south end has segmental-arched boat
entrance to canal; slate roof.
