House. Late C15/early C16, altered in late C16, enlarged in
1988. Timber framing, brick, peg and clay tiled roof. Plan
rectangular, with N end room as flying freehold over No.6
(qv). One and a half storeys plus basement. Front W elevation:
exposed framing of 3 bays, N end bay clearly of separate
build. Ground floor C19 bead-moulded boarded door, each side
C20 2-light casement window with glazing bars, 4x3 panes.
Basement light N of door. Above, C19 simple casement light
under eaves at N end. 2 C20 gabled dormer windows with 2-light
casement windows 4x3 panes. Rear elevation: full height C20
brick addition of 1988, painted, with 2 large fixed oval
windows lighting ground floor and basement, beyond, rear roof
partly visible with C20 sky light and C19 stack. S side
elevation: of early C19 red brick with C20 boarded door.
INTERIOR: outer frame and 3 bay system with braced tie-beams,
heavy roof rafters and side purlins slightly sooted. Late C16
inserted floor with `flat-laid' joists and lamb's tongue
chamfer stops on principals. Fireplaces c1800, ground floor
with timber lintel, first floor brick arched. Present stair
now in front of stack. Original said to have been behind stack
and with block treads. Rear garden wall listed under garden
boundary wall of No.3 High Street (qv).
