House, now flats. Early/mid C19, possibly with earlier
origins. Limestone ashlar to front, coursed squared limestone
rubble to sides. Artificial slate roof; left- and right-end
stacks rebuilt in concrete blockwork, right-end stack parallel
range to rear and on gable end of large rear wing.
3 storeys and attic; 3-window range. First floor has three
2/2-pane C19 horned sashes in plain reveals; second floor has
three 3/3-pane horned sashes in plain reveals with projecting
stone cills. Ground floor has two C19 2/2-pane horned sashes
in similar reveals.
Pedimented Doric doorcase to centre; 6-panel door in
round-headed opening with decorative fanlight. Hipped dormer
to centre apparently C20 reconstruction. Shallow ashlar
plinth; band courses over ground and first floors; cill band
to first floor. Moulded stone cornice and coped parapet.
Single-storey semi-circular ashlar bow to right side has two
long 6/9-pane curved sashes without horns in plain reveals
with stone cills flanking later french doors with glazing bars
and 2-pane overlight. Bow has moulded stone cornice and
blocking course. Large 3-storeys and attic wing to rear.
INTERIOR not inspected; Oxford House now converted into flats
and incorporated into large late C20 housing development.
Edward VIII as Prince of Wales said to have maintained a flat
in Oxford House for his visits to Cirencester to play polo.
