Public House. Late C17/early C18 with early and mid C19
additions and alterations. Render to front of main range; C19
wing in coursed squared limestone. Coursed squared limestone
and coursed squared limestone rubble to rear additions. Stone
slate roof to main range; concrete tile roof to right side of
C19 wing, rear slope of main range and rear additions. Rebuilt
stone ridge stack to right of main range; 2 brick and stone
rear axial stacks; brick stack on gablet to right of C19 wing;
5 further brick stacks on rear wings.
Building consists of late C17/early C18 main range with mid
C19 wing, gable facing, breaking forward slightly to front
right and extending backwards; 2 further early/mid C19
additions to rear left.
To front, 2 storeys and attic; 6-window range. First floor has
5 late C17/early C18 two-light ovolo-moulded stone
mullion-and-transom windows with C19 iron casements to left;
one C19 two-light hollow-chamfered stone mullion window with
hoodmould with C19 iron casements with octagonal-pattern
glazing. Ground floor has two 3-light ovolo-moulded stone
mullion-and-transom windows extended down to ground in C19 and
with C19 iron casements to left; 2 former 2-light
ovolo-moulded stone mullion-and-transom windows now lengthened
to ground with mullions and transoms cut out and with C20
border-glazed French doors; ground floor right has C19
three-light hollow-chamfered stone mullion-and-transom window
similar to first floor and with similar iron casements with
octagonal-pattern glazing.
Main range has C19 gabled porch to centre with moulded coping
and finial at apex; blind single-light window with hoodmould
to centre over pair of half-glazed doors in Tudor-arched
chamfered stone surround. Moulded string over ground floor. 3
gabled dormers with C20 two-light timber casements.
C19 wing to right has chamfered plinth; moulded string over
ground floor; single-light blind window with hoodmould in
gable; moulded coping over gable; finial at apex.
Left end of main range has hoodmould of blocked window at
first floor level, now coated in render. Bar area only
inspected internally; opened out through front rooms of main
range. Ground floor right of late C17/early C18 range has
contemporary Tudor-arched moulded stone fireplace, no grate;
raised-and-fielded panelled shutters to French doors to ground
floor centre; beams in this range heavily re-dressed or
recent.
C19 wing to right has contemporary hollow-chamfered
Tudor-arched fireplace; 3-light window to front has 2-panel
shutters, architrave with pilasters with recessed panels with
trefoil tops; matching door architrave to rear left. Broad
opening with pointed top to rear room in this range. Porch to
centre front has C19 shutters to close behind half-glazed
doors.
