6/100 Lime Kiln

II

Lime kiln: probably late C18: roughly squared stone, forming
retaining wall. 2 semi-circular stone-lined tunnels, side by
side, with connecting tunnel at back at floor level, leading to
well, marked by depression in ground above. 2 cupboard-like
recesses low down in right-hand tunnel. A typical Forest of Dean
limekiln, of a lower pattern than normal. (Committee for Rescue
Archaeology in Avon, Gloucestershire and Somerset, 1977 report.)
